About Mary Rennie

Mary Rennie is a public relations industry newbie – relatively -- with a zest for life and a streak for the creative (make sure you ask about her new pup, Tullah). Residing in Gwinnett for 18 years, she writes about everything you must know about living in this county.

Don’t be a victim of negligent security!

Your safety and security is the number one priority, and many people are unaware that business owners, landlords and other property owners have an obligation to provide adequate security for their customers and guests. It is their duty to keep the premises safe by implementing measures to protect against violent crimes. This could include measures such as installing video cameras and appropriate door locks, providing adequate lighting and running background checks on tenants or employees.

Did you know that Gwinnett County had more than 23,000 crimes committed in 2010, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation? From 2009 to 2010, there was a 15 percent increase in rape crimes.

Gwinnett: A New Day!

New Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash ‘Honored and Humbled’ to Serve… and Ready to Tackle Challenges

Applause and cheers were heard across Gwinnett this spring as Charlotte Nash secured her role as chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners with more than 55 percent of votes. She now serves the unexpired portion of former Chairman Charles Bannister’s term, as only the second woman to lead the Board of Commissioners.

County Leadership, Part Deux
Although this is Nash’s first time to serve as an elected official, this is not her first “so-called rodeo” with Gwinnett County Government. She had a 27-year career with the county until her retirement in 2004, holding positions as Grants Manager, Budget Director, Director of Financial Services and ultimately, a nine-year tenure as County Administrator. Nash has managed 24 annual budgets and implemented capital budgeting and long-term financial planning processes. Prior to being elected chairman, she had a successful consulting business that specialized in governmental and public financial strategy and management.

Win the New Year, New Office Contest

OFM, one of the nation’s leading office and school furniture manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers, recently kicked off its New Year, New Office contest. Those who own or work at a small business registered in the United States, with fifty employees or less, can enter to win a new OFM office chair, desk and storage unit.

“We’ve found that people are happier and more productive when they work in an office with newer and more comfortable furniture,” said Abel Zalcberg, co-founder and chief executive officer of OFM. “What better time of year to start fresh than now?”

To enter, contestants must email newyear@ofminc.com with a photo in JPEG format of their current office space and a brief paragraph explaining why they deserve to win. Then the contestant must follow OFM on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ofminc. Qualifying photos will then be posted on OFM’s Facebook page where contestants can encourage their friends, family and coworkers to like their photo. The contest runs from now until Feb. 28.

“We know small businesses often work out of less than ideal work spaces and this contest is made for them,” adds Zalcberg. “We expect the competition to be tough and the winner to be richly deserving of some new high-quality office furniture for a happier and healthier new year.”

OFM will notify the contest winner by email on March 7. The winner will receive the furniture free of cost and free of any shipping or delivery charge, but they will be solely responsible for any taxes.

For more information, visit www.ofminc.com/ofm-new-office-contest.asp
