About
Bath Gardens was created by Alonzo Plumb Boardman, 20 minutes from Augusta, GA, in the spring water fed countryside from 1958-1964. In its prime, the garden was admired by The Augusta Chronicle and Atlanta Constitution newspapers as well as the Augusta Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Boardman was inspired by his travels to Europe, and his European inspired garden takes visitors to 55 areas of tranquility and beauty. There are six cement ponds, three fountains, all surrounded by camellia, magnolia, azalea, dogwoods, and tall pine trees outlining the 4.5-acre managed valley area.
The Lodge is reminiscent of an Austrian Folly House and is at the end of the 265-gallon spring water fed main pond. A canoe is available for rent for use on the main pond for photography sessions. There are two patios in the valley for entertaining, one stone and one brick. There is a covered pavilion at the far end of the valley as well as an open grass area.
Permanant bathrooms are planned for the spring of 2026. In addition, walkways are planned to be installed for the American Camellia Trail recognition. Bath Gardens has been noted for preservation efforts by Historic Augusta as well as the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
