About
TRIDENT Refit Facility, Kings Bay (TRF-KB) is the largest tenant command on Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga., employing more than 2100 active-duty military and civilian personnel. Named a "Best of Georgia" company in 2023 and 2024, TRF-KB also ranks as one of the top three employers in Camden County.
Established in September 1989, and for almost four decades, TRF-KB has provided unmatched quality industrial-level maintenance and logistics support for the incremental overhaul, modernization, and repair of Trident ballistic missile (SSBN) and guided missile (SSGN) submarines. TRF-KB also furnishes global submarine supplies and spare parts support; and provides maintenance and support services to allied submarines, regional maintenance customers, and other activities as requested.
TRF-KB encompasses a waterfront support complex that features one of the largest covered dry docks in the world, three refit piers, berthing support buildings, and other services associated with waterfront maintenance operations. The TRF-KB Dry Dock completed a three-phase $600 million modernization overhaul in October 2022.
TRF-KB’s skilled workforce of men and women provide more than one million production staff-hours annually in submarine maintenance and other support. There are more than 35,000 staff-hours involved in the maintenance and repair during each repair period with two to three submarines undergoing maintenance at any given time.
And proudly, TRF-KB is one of the safest places to work in the country. Earning its first Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR in 2020, OSHA recertified TRF-KB in 2024 as an elite STAR worksite. The VPP STAR Program recognizes employers and employees who demonstrate exemplary achievement in workplace safety.
TRF-KB also boasts an outstanding and dynamic Apprenticeship Program. Established in 1990, the TRF-KB Apprenticeship Program is a demanding four-year accredited Federal Department of Labor initiative that includes more than 7200 hours of college academic courses, specific trade-theory learning, and hands-on training designed to produce highly skilled and proficient journeyman-level technicians.
The TRF-KB Apprenticeship Program has graduated hundreds of apprentice craftsmen and technicians in a variety of trades including Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Marine Machinery Mechanic, Machinist, Non-Destructive Test Inspector, Pipefitter, Rigger, Tile and Plate Setter, Sheet Metal Mechanic, Painter, Fabric Worker, Shipwright, Instrument Mechanic, Rubber and Plastics Fabricator, Insulator, Shipfitter, Water Treatment Plant Operator, and Welder.
