About
Founded in 2023, the Humane Society of Walton County (HSWC) was born out of a simple belief: the animals and people of Walton County deserve more.
As the only nonprofit, brick-and-mortar animal shelter in Walton County, we are dedicated to saving lives, strengthening the bond between people and pets, and creating a more compassionate community. HSWC operates without guaranteed government funding, relying on the generosity of donors, local businesses, grants, and dedicated volunteers to keep our doors open.
Since opening our doors in December 2023, we have found loving homes for more than 1,000 animals. Through our adoption and foster programs, spay/neuter initiatives, and community outreach, we work every day to give animals a second chance.
Our mission extends beyond the animals in our care. We believe meaningful, lasting change comes through collaboration, which is why we are committed to working alongside Walton County Animal Control to improve lifesaving outcomes throughout our county.
With a 100% live release rate in 2025, we are proud of what our small but mighty organization has accomplished in such a short time. But we know there is still much more work to be done.
Our vision is a Walton County where every adoptable animal has a chance at a loving home and where no healthy or treatable animal loses its life simply because of a lack of space or resources.
We are more than an animal shelter. We are a community-driven movement working toward a no-kill Walton County, one life at a time.
