About
Chris Lantz has been immersed in chainsaw carving, and all it has to offer- both the culture and the inescapable sawdust, since he was 2 years old. Although, his story’s beginning can be found a bit earlier than that even. In 1989, a year before he was born, Chris’s dad and uncles broke away from their riotous living and began attending church in Melbourne Florida. There they met a man named Ted Traverse who told them God was leading him to teach them to carve. He did, and Chris watched until he was 19 years old. On December 5, 2009 Chris moved to an abandoned flea market in Columbus Georgia and slept there for a week and a half; his only belongings consisting of a trash bag of clothes, a measly $20 bill, and a pack of cigarettes. He finally got ahold of a chainsaw, and two weeks later, sold a bear for $125! Since then, Chris gave his life to the lord as well and has been carving full time for almost 14 years.
In 2013, Chris dove head first into the competition side of carving. Since then, he has amassed over 40 ribbons and medals across the United States and as far as England! His favorite subjects are North American wildlife- horses, herons, bears, and wolves to name a few. Onlookers have been quoted as saying Chris’ performance is “like watching a magician pull a rabbit from his hat”, and “a true art; like a beautiful ballet”!
Serving the community through artwork is a wonderful and challenging process. Chris enjoys creating one of a kind sculptures for the public and individuals alike.
