Savannah Widows' Society

Savannah Widows' Society, founded in 1822, is the oldest charitable organization in Georgia. Our goal is to help single women over the age of 60, living in Chatham County with modest grants whose incomes from other sources are insufficient to meet their reasonable needs, regardless of race, creed, religion, or national origin. 

We accept referrals from any source, but the final approval rests solely with the "Society" and it considers requests at the monthly board meetings. The "Society" does not provide social work services, however, there may be information provided about available agencies or programs. The amount of aid, duration of assistance, and the method of payment are strictly the decision of the "Society".  Payments are made to the vendors or service providers and not to individual recipients.

We have helped our clients in making payments for, but not limited to, the following; Mortgages, Rent, Utility bills (water, gas, electricity), Telephone (landline and/or cell), Flood insurance, Homeowner and/or rental insurance, Dental bills, and modest home repair.
