About
Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild (CHG), founded in 1955, is the longest continuously running arts organization in Georgia. Our mission is to promote and preserve weaving and other fiber related arts. We do this through education, programs, and outreach to the community.
Meetings, classes, and workshops are held at the North DeKalb Cultural Arts Center, 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody. A wide variety of weaving and other fiber arts classes are taught throughout the year and are available for adults ages 18 and older. Hands-on classes for beginners to advanced students provide a relaxed pace of study spanning several weeks for both the public and CHG members. Looms and small equipment necessary for the classes are provided by the Guild, relieving new students from the burden of investing in expensive equipment. Classes are taught by CHG instructors and recognized community artists who have proven their technical and teaching abilities. Workshops provided by nationally-known fiber artists are provided three times a year. Workshops are open to CHG members and the public, however, CHG members are eligible for early registration and discounted fees. Outreach includes demonstrations of weaving, spinning, and other fiber related arts, held at libraries, museums, galleries, festivals, and other arts and cultural events throughout north Georgia.
Every other year the Guild sponsors a non-juried exhibit for members only. This offers members the opportunity to exhibit their work and to compete in a supportive environment. On the odd years, the Guild sponsors a juried exhibit open to fiber artists throughout the United States, and sometimes internationally. This highly acclaimed event provides guild members and the general public the opportunity to see outstanding examples of art made from fibers.
