All’s Fair in Hiawassee
Picture it: Carnival games and fireworks. Funnel cake fried to a golden-brown crisp. The unmistakable buzz of small-town excitement. No, it’s not a dream…
The Georgia Mountain Fair is back, and it’s hitting a big milestone this year: 75 years of fairground fun! From August 15-23, head to Hiawassee for all the classics you know and love, plus a few extra anniversary surprises. Whether you’re a lifelong attendee or just there for the fried Oreos, it’s sure to be a fair to remember!
Set against the scenic shores of Lake Chatuge, the fair kicks off early on Thursday, August 14, with an anniversary night offering free admission, 75¢ carnival rides, live music, and a fireworks show to start things with a bang. The fun officially begins on Friday, where you can expect a blend of old-fashioned charm and lively entertainment, from flower shows and photography shows to arts and crafts exhibits in the Pioneer Village.
Of course, no fair is complete without the food. Think crispy corndogs, smoked barbecue, ice cream, and just about anything you can drop in a fryer. Whether you’re watching a show at the Anderson Music Hall or riding the Ferris wheel at sunset, you’re never far from something delicious.
And there are plenty of shows on the schedule! From country and gospel legends like Gene Watson & Bellamy Brothers and Carolina The Band, Triumphant Quartet & The Inspirations to big names like Crowder and Molly Tuttle—and many more!—there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy. Unique fun awaits each day, so be sure to check out the daily schedule to plan your visit!
Plus, the Fair’s all about giving back and showing love to the local community. Thursday, August 21 is Military & First Responders Day, when all active duty military members, veterans, and first responders can enjoy free admission.
After all, the Georgia Mountain Fair isn’t just an event—it’s a summer tradition with deep local roots and a whole lot of heart. After 75 years, it’s still one of our favorite ways to celebrate the season, the mountains, and the joy of gathering. Come for the music, stay for the memories…and don’t forget the funnel cake!
