Crust Us, It’s Pie Season!

Crust Us, It’s Pie Season!

November gives pie people a perfectly respectable reason to discuss dessert before dinner. Across Georgia, apple, pecan and pumpkin are competing for holiday table space, and choosing a favorite calls for a little fieldwork. Bring a fork.

Before Thanksgiving turns dessert into an assignment, make it an afternoon outing. Visiting a pie shop gives you time to consider the options without a grocery cart full of potatoes demanding your attention. You might confirm your loyalty to pecan. You might discover that your usual apple order has competition.

At Southern Baked Pie Company, the fall and winter menu makes that decision pleasantly complicated. Caramel Apple Pecan and Cranberry Apple Crumble join fall offerings including Chocolate Pecan, Pumpkin and Salted Caramel Dutch Apple. Year-round flavors such as Buttermilk and Chocolate Chess keep familiar Southern choices in contention. Its Georgia shops span Gainesville, Alpharetta, Vinings and Buckhead, so a pie stop can fit into a regular Saturday rather than require a dedicated road trip. Flavors vary by location and season, making a menu check worthwhile before heading out.

That same spirit of experimentation takes a more personal turn at Doodle Pies in Roswell. The family-owned shop makes four-inch pies with fillings, add-ins and toppings chosen by the customer. Apple with caramel and walnuts offers a seasonal starting point; brownie bites and marshmallows leave room for less traditional decisions. Its Woodstock Road location is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. A personal pie also neatly settles the question of whether everyone has to agree on dessert.

Elsewhere in Roswell, The Pie Hole at 1025 Canton Street adds another stop to the conversation. Pairing the two shops gives local pie enthusiasts a manageable afternoon comparison, with no obligation to crown a winner.

Over in historic downtown Duluth, Crave Pie Studio keeps Dutch Apple, Maple Pecan, Chocolate Bourbon Pecan and Chocolate Chess on its signature menu year-round. Pumpkin joins the seasonal rotation, while five-inch mini dessert pies make sharing and comparing flavors practical. The Chocolate Bourbon Pecan combines Kentucky bourbon, bittersweet Belgian chocolate and Georgia pecans. Custom orders require at least 48 to 72 hours’ notice, so leave yourself time if your tasting produces a Thanksgiving contender.

Start with the shop closest to home, invite someone whose dessert opinions differ from yours and compare notes. November allows a few practice rounds before the holiday table needs an answer.
