Pickin', Paintin', & Playin'!

Pickin', Paintin', & Playin'!

On June 27, Historic Downtown Chickamauga will do what small Southern towns often do best: turn a Saturday into an event that feels like a reunion, a concert, an art show, and a street festival all at once.

The Chickamauga Art & Folk Festival returns for a full day of music, creativity, and community gathering, bringing artists, makers, musicians, and visitors together in the heart of northwest Georgia. Hosted by The 109 Gallery in partnership with Chickapalooza, the free festival has grown into one of the region's most distinctive summer traditions, drawing talent from across the Southeast while keeping its roots firmly planted in Chickamauga.

That balance is part of the appeal. You can spend the afternoon browsing handmade goods, watching live demonstrations, and chatting with artists whose work reflects everything from Appalachian traditions to contemporary folk influences. Inside The 109 Gallery, visitors will find an exhibition showcasing painters, sculptors, fiber artists, and craftspeople who are helping keep regional artistic traditions alive while giving them a fresh perspective.

A Soundtrack for Summer

Of course, no folk festival worth attending stops at visual art.

Live performances will run throughout the day, with a lineup that includes Pierce Pettis, The Essentials, Liv Noelle Music, and Jeff Jacks. The result is a soundtrack that feels perfectly suited to a summer day spent wandering downtown streets, cold drink in hand, discovering something unexpected around the next corner.

Families will find plenty to do as well. Hands-on activities, cultural demonstrations, and a bustling vendor market create the kind of atmosphere where kids stay entertained and adults accidentally spend three hours longer than they planned.

As the sun goes down, the celebration shifts to one of Chickamauga's most recognizable landmarks.

After Dark at the Mansion

The evening concert series takes place at the Historic Gordon Lee Mansion, where ticket holders can catch performances by Elevation, a tribute to U2; Disciple of The Garden, honoring the music of Chris Cornell; and Dead Letter Office, an internationally recognized tribute to R.E.M.

It's a lineup that adds a little rock-and-roll energy to a day rooted in folk traditions.

For Chickamauga, the festival is about more than entertainment. Events like this help support free community arts programming while bringing visitors into local shops, restaurants, and historic attractions. In a downtown known for its charm and walkability, that creates a ripple effect that extends well beyond a single Saturday.

Some festivals are built around spectacle. Chickamauga's is built around participation. That's what keeps people coming back.
