Ready, Set, Shop!

Black Friday in Georgia is getting a little more interesting. On November 27, holiday shoppers can trade crowded aisles for German Christmas markets, countryside vendor barns, mountain wineries, and waterfront shopping in Savannah.

The day after Thanksgiving has long belonged to bargain hunters, but Georgia's holiday markets offer another approach to checking off the gift list. Handmade goods, local vendors, and seasonal treats make shopping feel considerably less like an endurance sport.

In Lawrenceville, the Atlanta Christkindl Market brings German holiday traditions to Lawrenceville Lawn. Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday, the free-admission market features handcrafted gifts, traditional food, and festive decorations. Shoppers can park at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center and follow the illuminated Winterlight Walk to the market.

Meanwhile, historic Senoia is welcoming its own Atlanta Christkindl Market for the first time. Opening November 27 at 11 a.m., the new location brings artisan vendors, German-inspired fare, and holiday shopping to downtown Senoia. Admission is free, leaving a little extra room in the gift budget.

For shoppers who prefer barns to bustling downtowns, H&H Homestead in Maysville is hosting its Holiday Extravaganza November 27–28. The 50-acre farm welcomes more than 25 vendors with indoor and outdoor shopping, mobile boutiques, Christmas music, and food and coffee trucks. Admission is free, and the festivities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Up in Blairsville, Paradise Hills Resort and Winery has a different interpretation of Black Friday shopping. Its Sip & Shop event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with 25% off retail merchandise, wine crafts, live music, and mulled wine. Shopping with a glass of something warm sounds considerably more civilized than racing through a department store.

Along Savannah's waterfront, the Savannah Christmas Market at Plant Riverside District fills outdoor vendor huts with gifts, seasonal treats, and holiday merchandise. Running November 19 through January 3, the European-style market also features live performances, children's activities, and visits with Santa.

These markets give Georgians a chance to spend holiday dollars closer to home, discover independent makers, and find presents with more personality than another last-minute gift card. The best Black Friday purchase might come without a doorbuster deal attached.
