Ten Days, One Very Pink City!
Every spring, the streets of Macon turn a shade of pink that feels a little unreal. Thousands of Yoshino cherry trees bloom at once, soft petals drifting through the air and blanketing sidewalks like confetti from nature. That scene sets the stage for the annual International Cherry Blossom Festival, returning March 20-29 with ten days of playful competition, hometown traditions, and enough festival snacks to justify a road trip.
Petals, Parades, and Playful Competition
Much of the action centers around Carolyn Crayton Park, where you can wander between rides, entertainment stages, and food vendors while those famous blossoms frame the scene. Downtown Macon joins the fun too, hosting parades, performances, and community gatherings that spill into the streets.
A few crowd favorites make the schedule worth circling in bright pink ink:
- Bed Race – Teams sprint down the street pushing decorated beds on wheels. Equal parts athletic event and comedy show.
- Wiener Dog Race – Short legs, big determination, and a parade of tiny racers that rarely run in a straight line.
- Cherry Blossom Parade – Floats, marching bands, and a full dose of hometown pride rolling through downtown.
- Carnival Midway – Classic rides and games that keep kids busy and adults happily nostalgic.
A Festival Built for Wandering
While the cherry blossoms are the headliners, the festival’s charm lives in the mix of small moments. One minute you’re watching a local band play under a canopy of pink petals. The next you’re debating funnel cake versus kettle corn while kids race toward the Ferris wheel.
Events run throughout the ten day stretch and include everything from the traditional Coronation to arts competitions, concerts, and family friendly activities that give each day its own personality. It’s easy to spend a whole afternoon drifting from one corner of the celebration to the next.
Pack a camera, bring an appetite, and prepare for petals everywhere. When Macon turns pink, the whole city feels like it’s throwing a party!
