Things Are Getting Schnauzy!
Rome is about to have a beard problem! Schnauzerfest Rome 7 rolls into town October 30–31, bringing Schnauzers of every size, their humans, and enough Halloween costumes to make Broad Street considerably fuzzier.
The two-day gathering celebrates all Schnauzer breeds, beginning Friday at Burk Farm with a Meet & Greet BBQ, bonfires, and entertainment. Dogs can also sign up to try Barn Hunt, Fast Cat, and agility activities, which should settle any lingering household debates about who’s actually the athlete in the family.
From Fast Cats to Singing Schnauzers
Saturday shifts the action to the Forum River Center Arena in Downtown Rome, where the schedule gets delightfully specific. There’s a Schnauzer Agility Contest, Barn Hunt, Fast Cat Racing, live demonstrations, rescue groups, and more than 20 vendors.
Then comes the Schnauzer Idol Singing Competition. Yes, singing. Whether the contestants deliver a soulful howl, enthusiastic bark, or something entirely their own is between them and the judges.
The festival is also continuing its quest for the world record for the “Most dogs in a walk by a single breed.” The attempt comes as part of the massive Schnauzer Costume Parade, turning a group dog walk into a spectacle of whiskers, costumes, and considerable leash management.
Halloween Gets Hairier
This year’s calendar gives Schnauzerfest an especially good closing act. Halloween falls on Saturday, putting the festival’s first Schnauzerween Night Parade right where it belongs.
At 7 p.m., costumed Schnauzers and decorated strollers will make their way down Broad Street after the city’s trick-or-treat festivities. It’s a combination so oddly perfect that a standard Halloween parade might feel underdressed afterward.
For locals, the weekend is also a reminder of what Downtown Rome does particularly well. A niche gathering can spill into the heart of town, pull together dog owners, rescue organizations, vendors, families, and spectators, and somehow make a singing competition for Schnauzers seem perfectly reasonable.

By Saturday night, Broad Street will have seen plenty of Halloween costumes. The ones with eyebrows and beards may steal the show.
