A Fresh Take in Fintech! New Banking Platform Greenwood and its Financial Empowerment Mission
Three influential Atlanta leaders have joined forces to start a new digital banking platform, Greenwood, with the mission to bring financial empowerment to all. Bounce TV founder Ryan Glover, rapper and activist Michael “Killer Mike” Render and former Atlanta mayor and civil rights leader Andrew Young co-founded Greenwood last year, and it has already raised almost $40 million in funding.
Numerous prominent financial institutions including Truist Bank, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase have all invested in the upcoming digital banking platform. Grey’s Anatomy actor Jesse Williams and New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara have also joined Greenwood’s investment team.
These significant investments in Greenwood aren’t the only sign of its promising future. There’s already an overwhelming demand for the service to launch, with more than 600,000 people already having joined their waiting list.
Greenwood was created with the main goal of widespread financial empowerment and working to help close the wealth gap by making banking services more accessible and easier to use. The new fintech startup is geared toward minority individuals, families and businesses but is open to all who are interested.
The new bank is named after the thriving early 1900s African American business district in Tulsa, Oklahoma, nicknamed "Black Wall Street”.
Greenwood is expected to launch their digital banking services by the end of 2021 and will announce more investment product offerings in 2022.
