Art’s Up in Savannah!

Art’s Up in Savannah!

Savannah in May hits just right. The sidewalks get busier, the breeze off the river feels like an invitation, and the city’s creative energy starts to spill out in every direction. It’s the kind of month that makes you want to linger—on a shaded bench, at a gallery opening, or wherever something unexpected is happening.

And right now, that “something” is art. From student showcases to gallery walks and open studios, May’s calendar is packed with ways to experience Savannah’s creative side—up close, and often for free.

Where to Catch the Creativity

  • Sulfur Street Fair — Friday, May 2 (5–9 p.m.)

Part open house, part block party, Sulfur Studios turns 39th Street into a pop-up art festival. Expect studio tours, local vendors, food trucks, and that “everyone knows everyone” Starland vibe. Bonus points if you leave with something handmade and a new favorite band.

  • Jepson Center Exhibits — Ongoing, Daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Need a break from the heat (or tourists)? Duck into the Jepson. This spring’s lineup includes Photography’s Last Century and Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass—perfect for when you want to feel cultured and air-conditioned. Details

  • Bonus Stops: Kobo, Location, Roots Up — Anytime (within biz hours, of course)!

These local galleries keep it fresh with contemporary, folk, and outsider art from Savannah and beyond. Great for walk-ins and casual browsing.

See It. Feel It. Maybe Frame It.

From polished museums to sidewalk pop-ups, Savannah’s art scene is wide open this month. Whether you leave with a painting or just a great conversation, odds are good you’ll come back for more.
