Beyond the Basics: Ace Hardware in Perry Is Where Community and Craftsmanship Meet
When you think of a true community cornerstone, a place where generations of locals have gathered for projects big and small, Ace Hardware in Perry instantly comes to mind. This year, it earned a coveted spot in the Best of Georgia Awards, a tribute to the dedication and service that has cemented Ace Perry’s role in the community for nearly four decades. And it wasn’t just luck that secured this award—the title was earned through the loyalty and support of customers who cast their votes on Gbj.com to recognize what they see as the best in service, selection, and community spirit.
Brothers William and George Jackson laid the foundation for the Perry Ace Hardware back in January 1985. In a modest 2,000-square-foot space in the Eastgate shopping center, they sold everything from nuts and bolts to paint and garden tools. That was just the beginning. With a dream bigger than their square footage, William and George soon found themselves outgrowing the space. They moved to a larger, 9,000-square-foot location on Ball Street in 1987, giving them room to grow their inventory and deepen their community ties.
The expansion didn’t stop there. By 1989, the Jackson brothers took their winning formula up the road to Macon with the opening of Wesleyan Ace, kicking off a legacy of service that would extend across the area. Today, the Perry Ace Hardware stands proudly in a 40,000-square-foot space at the Perry Marketplace shopping center, filled with every tool, can of paint, garden essential, and home improvement item anyone could need.
The recognition from the Best of Georgia Awards shines a spotlight on Ace Hardware’s unwavering commitment to community. The store isn't just a place to pick up supplies; it’s a go-to for project advice, recommendations, and friendly service, qualities that have become hallmarks of Ace’s mission. Customers and voters alike appreciate that this is a place where the team genuinely cares about the projects and passions of everyone who walks through their doors.
William Jackson, now the sole owner, reflects on the journey, pointing out how the business has expanded not only in size but in spirit. “Hardware, Paint, Garden Center, Gift Shop—we’ve become so much more than a hardware store,” he says. “It’s about helping our neighbors, providing what they need, and creating a place where people feel welcome.”
