Defending Justice. Josh Teague: A Voice for the Voiceless
A child of the 80s and 90s, Josh Teague spent countless hours reading every comic book he could get his hands on. His favorite was Batman, because “he’s a regular guy.” Those childhood heroes fostered in him a compassion for those who found the least understanding in society.
Later, as he turned his attention to what was happening in the world, he wanted to fight for the outsiders and underdogs in his own community, “to be a voice for mercy and justice for those that had all too often been ignored or overlooked.” Teague admits his early interest in law seemed a practical way to channel his talent for winning a good argument. “As I got into it, I saw that I was helping people who are otherwise facing insurmountable odds.”
Today, Teague is particularly passionate about representing those going up against the powerful, such as the government or huge insurance companies. “It can be daunting, terrifying even, to be in this position,” he says. “There is fear about what will happen to me, anger about why does nobody believe me—people feel like they are not being heard."
"We try to make sure that their story is told in court and heard by a jury.”
Teague Law also helps those injured by drunk drivers, providing these clients with a path to present an impact statement to the court.
Teague grew up in Ellijay in Gilmer County. His connection with the people and values of North Georgia, as well as the attitudes of local juries, courts, politicians, judges and prosecutors, made starting a firm in his hometown a natural fit. Before founding Teague Law in February 2017, Teague graduated cum laude from Kennesaw State University and earned a law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law, where he graduated in the top 20 percent of his class. During law school, experience clerking for two superior court judges and an internship with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office afforded him a unique perspective on existing cases.
With offices in Kennesaw and Ellijay, the team at Teague Law represents those accused of everything from arson to aggravated assault, from drug possession or drug trafficking to white collar crimes. The firm has taken injury, criminal and divorce cases and represents clients in DUI and driver’s license suspension cases, family law and adoption cases, personal injury cases and criminal defense.
Teague is passionate about changing inequities in the current judicial system. “Our justice system only works when the blindfold is removed, when defense attorneys recognize their role in the system,” he wrote in a recent blog. That role, according to Teague, is to fight fiercely and unflinchingly for the client and to recognize the problems inherent in the justice system and confront them boldly.
“I fight for my clients with everything I know,” says Teague.
“Our goal is to make things better. We only work with a client we think we can help. I want my life to be of service to those who feel hopeless. I want to be a voice for the voiceless.”
