This family-owned seafood restaurant, with its roots stretching back to 1983, has recently been honored with the 2023 Best of Georgia Award. The Shellhouse Restaurant's story is one of perseverance and dedication. Initially established at Turner’s Creek on Wilmington Island, the Garrett family's first venture was tragically short-lived due to a devastating fire. However, the Garretts, undeterred by this setback, sought a new beginning. They found it in a vacant building, once known as the "Oasis of Georgia" – a former welcome center for the state. With the collective effort of a close-knit family and supportive friends, the Garretts transformed this space into what is now, The Shellhouse Restaurant, opening its doors on September 24, 1988. They’ve been serving Savannah with the best seafood and more for over 35 years.
