Holiday Hiring Help

While ornaments and turkey dinner are still far in the future for some, for others the holiday season is at the forefront of their minds. While all businesses feel the shift during the holiday sales season, one industry that feels it the most is mailing and shipping. People send more gifts and letters between November and January than any other time of year, which means peak season for post offices.

Businesses that are involved in the world of shipping like Amazon, USPS and UPS (headquartered in Atlanta) are gearing up by hiring holiday help!

UPS: Boasting “digital first hiring” meaning no interviews and a job offer for most roles in as little as 25 minutes, the United Parcel Service (headquartered in Atlanta) is looking to hire more than 100,000 workers to aid meeting holiday demands. The company is filling full- and part-time seasonal positions – primarily seasonal delivery and CDL drivers, package handlers, and driver helpers – by offering competitive wages across multiple shifts in hundreds of locations across the country. Permanent positions also are available in some areas for those who apply early.

And seasonal opportunities are a proven pathway to a career at UPS – nearly 35,000 seasonal employees earned permanent positions following the 2021 holidays. UPS creates jobs that pay industry-leading wages and benefits, and rewards people who stay. A full-time UPS package delivery driver makes an average of $95,000 per year, plus an additional $50,000 in contributions to health, wellness and pension benefits.

“We have made our hiring process as simple and easy as possible,” said Nando Cesarone, Executive Vice President and President, U.S. Operations. “UPS’s strength has always been our people, and we are excited about the opportunity to welcome new UPSers to our team as we deliver what matters for our customers this holiday season.

Amazon: Amazon announced that it is hiring 150,000 employees throughout the U.S. in full-time, seasonal, and part-time roles across its operations network. A diverse range of roles—from packing and picking to sorting and shipping—are available to applicants from all backgrounds and experience levels. Employees can earn, on average, more than $19 per hour based on position and location in the U.S.

“We’re proud to offer a wide variety of roles for people of all backgrounds, with more than 150,000 roles available across the country. Whether someone is looking for some extra money for a few months or a long-term career, the holidays are a great time for people to join Amazon, and many of our seasonal employees return year-after-year or transition into full-time roles,” said John Felton, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations. “Those who choose to stay with us will find a lot of opportunities to grow their careers, whether they take advantage of our free college tuition programs or seek out promotions across our network—this year alone, more than 20,000 front-line employees received promotions.”

USPS: The United States Postal Service announced critical investments in personnel, technology and the postal network footprint that have been made in advance of the 2022 holiday season. The plan is to hire and additional 28,000 peak season employees across the nations. This includes 1,000 truck drivers, along with letter carriers and processing team members.

“Successfully delivering for the holidays is a cornerstone of our Delivering for America 10-year plan,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. “Thanks to the 655,000 women and men of the Postal Service, recent investments and operational precision improvements, we are ready to be the most used delivery provider this holiday season.”
