Taking Flight with Passion: The ATL Aircraft Dispatcher Academy

The ATL Aircraft Dispatcher Academy (AADA) has recently soared to new heights. The Academy's remarkable achievement at the 2023 Best of Georgia Awards, where it clinched the prestigious title through the enthusiastic votes of its customers, is a testament to its unwavering commitment to excellence and its unique role in shaping the future of aviation.

Located on the campus of the College Park First United Methodist Church in Historic Downtown College Park, GA, the AADA, known for its rigorous training and passionate instruction, is not just a gateway to an exciting airline career; it's a launchpad for dreams! The Academy equips aspiring Aircraft Dispatchers with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complex world of aviation, offering a career passport that opens doors to limitless global opportunities.

We try to make our students feel welcome from their first phone conversation with Phyllis Ramsey, our Sales Manager. During their in-person tour with the Owner/Instructor Robert Longino, “We do our best to answer our student’s questions about the Course and give them insights to help them be successful not only in class but also out in the “real” world”.

We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated Instructor group led by Chief Instructor Mark Keary. Each Instructor teaches the areas that they are Aviation Subject Matter Experts in! The Instructor group is comprised of Mark Keary, Lynn LaBerge, Lloyd Prince, Tommie Benefield, Gypsie Stewart, Maggie Little, Truman Tinsley who teaches a Dispatch Resource Management (DRM) Safety Module and Robert Longino.  “This Instructor Group is absolutely amazing!!” states Phyllis Ramsey Sales Manager. “They truly care deeply about making sure that our students get the best education possible!! We remind ourselves that we still have friends flying these airplanes and we all ride on these airplanes, so we strive to make sure that our graduates are the best of best!”

The responsibilities for Aircraft Dispatchers encompass a wide range of critical functions in the aviation industry. They particularly focus on the safety, efficiency, and regulation of commercial airline flights. They play a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to both government and company regulations, prioritizing the safety and well-being of passengers and crew.

A key part of their role involves the analysis and evaluation of meteorological data to identify any potential hazards and to choose the safest and most economical flight routes. They also calculate the necessary fuel based on various factors like aircraft type, flight distance, weather conditions, and regulatory minimum requirements.

They are responsible for preparing comprehensive flight plans that include crucial information such as maximum allowable takeoff and landing weights, weather reports, airfield conditions, and NOTAMS (Notices to Air Missions). The flight plan also serves as a dispatch release, a legal document that authorizes a flight's departure.

In cases of unsafe conditions, they have the authority to delay or cancel flights to ensure safety. They continuously monitor weather conditions, aircraft positioning, and navigation charts to track flight progress and update the pilot-in-command on any significant changes. This may involve suggesting alterations to the flight plan, like route or altitude changes, or recommending enroute landings if necessary for safety and economic reasons.

The Best of Georgia Awards, a recognition platform hosted by Gbj.com, celebrates businesses and institutions that exemplify excellence in their respective fields. Winning this accolade is no small feat, as it hinges on the votes and satisfaction of those who matter most – the customers. This customer-centric approach to determining awardees makes the honor all the more significant for AADA, underscoring its positive impact on the lives of its students.

In a candid conversation, the owner of AADA, Robert Longino, shared, "Our vision has always been to empower individuals with the best in aviation training. This award is a reflection of that vision, and it's humbling to know that it's our students and their votes that have brought us this honor. We're not just teaching skills; we're nurturing a community of aviation enthusiasts who share our passion for the skies. We also would like to acknowledge the oversight and guidance of FAA Inspector Sonny Smithwick and his Team of very knowledgeable Designated Aircraft Dispatcher Examiners who provide the thorough FAA Practical Exams for our students at the completion of our Course. They also do all possible to meet our student’s availability when scheduling the Exams”.

The journey to this accolade has been fueled by AADA's unwavering dedication to quality education and a supportive learning environment. The Academy stands out for its hands-on approach, seasoned Instructors who have over 200 years of recent Airline experience, and a curriculum that's both challenging and rewarding. It's this blend of rigorous training and a supportive atmosphere that resonates with students, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success in the airline industry.
