The Heart of Healthcare: How Hospice Savannah is Transforming Lives
In 2023, Hospice Savannah marked a significant achievement by receiving the Best of Georgia Award, a recognition that speaks volumes about their dedication to quality care and community service. This non-profit organization, serving the counties of Chatham, Effingham, Bryan, and Liberty, has been a cornerstone in providing hospice care for over four decades.
Founded in 1979, Hospice Savannah began as a community hospice under the guidance of Mrs. Anne K. Stewart and has since evolved into the largest and most comprehensive non-profit hospice in the area. Their services extend beyond traditional hospice care, including the Steward Center for progressive palliative care, the Edel Caregiver Institute for caregiving resources and support, and Full Circle Grief and Loss Center providing support and counseling after the loss of a loved one. Although over 80% of the hospice care they provide is in the privacy of the patient’s home, they also have the community’s Hospice Inpatient Unit where they provide symptom management and respite care. Notably, Hospice Savannah is distinguished by its Butterfly Program, one of the only pediatric hospice services in the state, allowing pediatric patients to continue curative treatments while on services.
The Best of Georgia Award, determined by customer votes, highlights Hospice Savannah's deep-rooted connection with the communities it serves. This accolade reflects the organization's commitment to quality, as evidenced by their accreditation by the Joint Commission, a prestigious quality review in American healthcare. Furthermore, their affiliation with the United Way of the Coastal Empire, the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation, and the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization underlines their dedication to industry standards and innovation.
Hospice Savannah's impact reflects the organization's origins and mission, and is best seen in its continual growth to serve patients and their families throughout the community. The goal has always been compassionate and comprehensive care, and this award reaffirms the commitment to this mission.
The Best of Georgia Award not only recognizes Hospice Savannah's excellence in hospice and palliative care but also celebrates the enduring spirit of community involvement and innovation that has been the hallmark of their service. As they continue to expand and evolve, Hospice Savannah remains a vital part of Georgia’s healthcare landscape, setting a standard for compassionate care and community engagement.
