TRF-KB Celebrates Decades of Submarine Maintenance Excellence
TRIDENT Refit Facility (TRF-KB), located at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, was honored with the 2024 Best of Georgia Award, marking the second consecutive year that TRF-KB has earned this recognition.
In addition to their 2023 Regional Award, the Best of Georgia award is based on customer votes, underscoring the facility’s significant impact and commitment to quality service and support in our nation’s defense.
TRF-KB plays a vital role in maintaining and modernizing the U.S. Navy's fleet of elite nuclear Ohio-class submarines, a critical cornerstone of the nation's nuclear triad and strategic deterrence that serves as the backbone of America’s national security. TRF-KB looks forward to welcoming the Navy’s newest ballistic missile submarine, the Columbia-class, later this decade.
Established September 30, 1989, when TRF-KB officially achieved its planned Initial Operational Capability (IOC), TRF-KB’s mission is to provide quality, unparalleled industrial-level maintenance and logistics support for the incremental overhaul, modernization, and repair of Trident ballistic missile (SSBN) and guided missile (SSGN) submarines, or simply, “Fix Submarines.”
TRF-KB also furnishes global submarine supplies and spare parts support, and provides maintenance and support services to allied submarines, regional maintenance customers, and other organizations as requested.
TRF-KB’s innovative and cutting-edge approach combines traditional methods with modern techniques, equipping the workforce with future-ready skills and capabilities. Always looking to hire new talent, the organization’s focus on developing highly skilled and technically capable professionals is evident in the successful on-time deployment and safe operation of the submarine fleet it supports.
Winning the 2024 Best of Georgia Award, especially through customer votes, highlights the exceptional service and commitment of TRF-KB. It's a recognition of their efforts in training personnel, maintaining warships, and ensuring that submarines in their charge are always "War Ready." Their slogan, "The Spear Starts Here,” encapsulates the essence of their critical work – maintaining the highest standards of submarine readiness and ensuring the safety of those Sailors who operate them at the “Tip of the Spear.”
TRF-KB’s impact extends beyond just submarine maintenance and training. Their industry-renowned Apprenticeship Program, along with focused recruitment and retention efforts, contribute significantly to the local community and economy. TRF-KB ranks as one of the top three employers in Camden County, employing more than 1,800 civilian employees and almost 300 U.S. Navy active duty personnel.
