Vintage Fashion, Summer Trends & Entrepreneurial Brands Coming Your Way with $100M ASOS Expansion!
Whether it’s a six-piece sectional sofa, a roll of toilet paper or a last-minute outfit for that event you have coming up, there’s basically no limit to the things you can buy online these days. And it’s only getting easier, with evolving distribution technology, larger delivery truck fleets, and quicker delivery making shopping online more accessible and practical than ever before. This massive online shopping sector is better known as e-commerce, or the buying and selling of goods online while utilizing technology to make the industry more efficient. E-commerce is the new normal in this post-pandemic digital age, growing 39% year over year compared to only 13% for total retail sales.
The exciting part? Georgia is quickly becoming a major hub for this prolific industry that will only continue to grow. Thanks to the state’s robust transportation infrastructure, ideal location and many corporations that already call it home, numerous e-commerce giants are investing in and expanding Georgia-based headquarters and distribution centers, bringing in hundreds of millions.
One recent development that’s turning heads is the announcement that the massive British retailer ASOS is coming to Fulton County. The prolific online fashion giant is investing over $100 million into expanding their Union City distribution center. ASOS sells their clothing online exclusively, allowing them to cut costs by skipping brick and mortar locations and make a name for themselves as one of the largest online retailers.
The staggering $100 million investment will bring new state-of-the-art automation equipment, robotics and storage capacity to the distribution center. ASOS will also hire an undisclosed yet promising number of engineering and software development workers alongside their already 1,000 Georgia-based employees. The Union City distribution center is one of the retailer’s only three worldwide and its only US location, making it a critical facility for the London-based e-commerce corporation. It’s an exciting development bound to compound Georgia’s bright future in e-commerce.
