Yang Yang has decided! Georgia Bulldogs predicted to win the 2022 College Football Playoff Semifinal Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The 25 year old giant panda entered his dayroom habitat on December 20, 2022, to find two identical boxes painted with team logos, and made his pick between the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

One of four giant pandas at one of only three zoos in the U.S. housing these bears, Yang Yang is an ambassador for Zoo Atlanta’s most significant long-term investment in wildlife conservation. Fewer than 1,900 giant pandas remain in the wild in China’s Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. Of these, more than 1,200 live inside nature reserves. Zoo Atlanta has supported programs on eight of these reserves and has contributed well over $16 million in support for wild giant pandas living in China.

Although the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) updated the species’ status from Endangered to Vulnerable in 2016, giant pandas remain heavily reliant on conservation programs. Their threats include habitat fragmentation and habitat loss as a result of deforestation and other human activities.

The annual Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will be held at 8 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve in Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The winner of the game will advance to play for the College Football National Championship at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on January 9.
